“Hakka patas” is an inhuman weapon invented to kill elephants. It is a mixture of explosive matter, iron and lead made into a ball-shaped charge. It is easy to hide “Hakka patas” the explosive mixture inside a large vegetable or other fruit.

The elephant is suffering from some wounds and requires immediate medical attention to suppress its pain.
The team of experts had their steps to give anesthesia to this elephant before they could reach him for proper treatments. it is when the giant Sri Lankan elephant decided to chase the team of wildlife experts. The elephant finally calmed down for the vet team to engage in medical treatments. The Vet was interviewed where he urges people not to use such inhuman and ultimately cruel traps such as “Hakka Patas” to hunt down animals. Sri Lanka is facing many challenges to keep these elephant population up as there are only a few Asian elephants compared to last few decades.
